Vaginal hygiene is extremely important for every woman’s health. The vagina is a sensitive area of your body and ensuring that it is cleaned with the right method makes a huge difference when it comes to curbing vaginal infections.
Thankfully, maintaining vaginal hygiene is incredibly easy. Here are a few tips to help you with proper vaginal care.
MAINTAIN ITS PH BALANCE
The key to good vaginal health is to maintain its natural pH level. The standard pH level for a healthy vagina is acidic. A normal range of vaginal pH level would be from 3.8 to 4.5. High vaginal pH could put you at risk of infections like Bacterial Vaginosis (BV) or unusual vaginal discharge such as grey or yellow.
WASH. RINSE. REPEAT!
To ensure your vagina is clean at all times, you’ll have to gently wash and rinse regularly. All you’ll need to do is to gently cleanse the outer area of your vagina, not the inside!
You do not need to use scented or strong soaps. Your vagina does not need to smell like flowers or fruits. As a matter of fact, using plenty of scented soap or body wash can alter the pH level and eventually this could lead to your vagina being more susceptible to infections.
MENSTRUATION HYGIENE
The simplest way to maintain the cleanliness of your vagina especially when you’re menstruating is to regularly change your sanitary pad. As a guide, it should be at least three to four times a day or every two hours. When changing pads, gently wash or wipe your perineal area. Also, avoid using scented pads as the chemicals used to provide the scent can cause irritation too.
