Fun Family Destinations in South East Asia

South East Asia consists of more than 10 countries so there’s no way we won’t be able to point to somewhere fun for you and your family to travel to and explore! Travelling with little ones, the elderly or both could prove slightly challenging but where there’s a will, there’s a way.

Some things to take note are that, while every country is advertised as friendly and welcoming, do take precautions such as not displaying your valuables and keeping minimal amounts of cash on you at all times. Keep your passport and other required travel documents safe by carrying photocopies while you’re out and about and locking the originals in a safe at your hotel. Additionally, there are certain restrictions for pregnant women and babies depending on the airline you choose to use so do check with them. Remember to also pack all the medications required by all family members to prevent any medical emergencies that might occur overseas.

After you’ve taken all precautions, on to having some fun in the sun!

#1: Bangkok, Thailand

Flow House Bangkok – Bring your swimsuits and slather on the sunscreen when you check out this artificial wave machine and beach club in the centre of Bangkok. They are also equipped with a kids’ pool, sun-lounders, viewing deck, surf shop and a bar.

Art in Paradise Trick-Eye 3D Museum – Take silly photos and create hilarious memories with the 3D murals inside of this museum.

Safari World Zoo and Park – This park is divided into two areas; the open Safari Park where you can drive through in a car or in a park bus; and the Marine Park which is more of a traditional zoo with animal shows and such. The Safari Park is where you can see animals such as giraffes and tigers roaming about (separated of course).

Chatuchak Weekend Market – With over 8,000 market stalls, this is the place to buy souvenirs, clothes, shoes, food and more! Do take note that there will be lots of walking and it will be super crowded so maybe able-bodied family members along with older children will be more appropriate for this destination.

#2: Bali, Indonesia

Sanur – This seaside town has a long stretch of beach with shallow waters. Along with having a beach holiday, check out the Pura Blanjong temple built from coral with inscriptions from the 10th century.

Ubud – This is the place to check out traditional crafts and dance. Dotted with terraced rice paddies, Hindu temples and shrines, bring your family along for a learning trip. For older families, book a group Balinese massage, breathe and relax.

Lovina – This stretch of black sand beach is popular for diving and snorkelling trips along with dolphin viewing. Rent some bicycles and go on a sunset ride to beat the heat and explore Lovina with the wind in your hair.

#3: Laos

This is a country best explored with older children due to rugged terrain and possible difficulty with regards to healthcare. Go trekking in the mountains but remember to pack insect repellent.

Vang Vieng is well known as a party destination but there are plenty of other places to explore in Laos.

Luang Prabang is great for exploring nature. Tad Sae Waterfall has a great shallow wading area but do watch your children if they are young. There are also elephants to see and feed (at a cost). Peninsula Beach is also a great spot for children to run around and dip their feet in the water but not swim because the current is quite fast there.
