Apples are one of the most popular fruit options when it comes to staying healthy, all thanks to the idiom, ‘An apple a day keeps the doctor away’. Well, you don’t have to take it too literally as this purely means eating healthy helps you to stay away from health issues.
Though, there is no doubt that apples are one option to keep yourself healthy. This amazing fruit, which grows in various types, are extremely rich in antioxidants and fibre.
So, to encourage you and your family to enjoy more apples, here are two recipes for you to attempt!
Recipe 1: Apple Salad
Ingredients
- Roasted chicken breast
- 250 g Baby spinach
- 1 Apple, sliced thinly
- 30 g Walnuts, chopped
- 2 tbsp Extra virgin olive oil
- A handful of dried cranberries
Method
- Rinse baby spinach under running water and strain.
- While waiting for the water to drain, slice chicken breast and set aside.
- Then, in a large bowl, place baby spinach as the base of the salad.
- Then, followed by roasted chicken breast, apples, cranberries and walnuts.
- Lastly, drizzle olive oil, toss the salad and enjoy!
NOTE: Apples give a nice crunch and naturally adds sweetness to your salad. Hence, making it a dish to be enjoyed by the young and old.

Recipe 2: The Humble Crumble
Ingredients
- 1 kg Granny smith apples
- 50 g Brown castor sugar
- 2 tbsp Cinnamon powder
- 50 g Unsalted butter
- 1 tbsp Nutmeg powder
- 100 g Plain flour
- ½ tbsp Ginger powder
- A pinch of salt
Method
- Preheat your oven to 180°C.
- Peel and core your apples and soak them in salted water to prevent oxidation.
- Cut apples into cubes and add cinnamon powder, nutmeg powder and ginger powder. Mix well and refrigerate.
- Meanwhile, cube cold butter and in another mixing bowl, rub flour, butter and sugar with your fingertips until it resembles a texture similar to breadcrumbs.
- Lastly, in an oven-proof baking dish, pour apples and top it with the crumble mixture and bake for 30 to 40 minutes until golden.
