Wholesome Goodness in a Bowl

Gone were the days of overnight oats and a 10-second smoothie to-go. Smoothie in a bowl is the new health trend and has taken the internet by storm. Smoothie in a bowl consists of a smoothie base and on top of that, you could add nutritious toppings to it. Hence, making it a satisfying and wholesome meal.

The best part about smoothie in a bowl is that, you can put on your toque blanche and let your creativity run wild. It gives you the flexibility to add any combination of ingredients and you could also decide as to how filling you would like it to be. For example, if you’ve got a busy day ahead, adding cereal to your smoothie bowl would be perfect.

If you do not know where to start, here are two delicious smoothie in a bowl recipes for you to start with.

BERRIES & CREAM

INGREDIENTS
50g Fresh or frozen raspberries
50g Fresh or frozen strawberries
½ cup Coconut water
1 tsp Maple syrup
1 tbsp Chia seeds
A handful of unsalted pistachios
A handful of muesli

METHOD

  1. In a blender, blend raspberries, strawberries, maple syrup and coconut water. Blend until smooth.
  2. Once blended, pour smoothie into a bowl and top of some fresh raspberries, pistachios, muesli and sprinkle some chia seeds.
  3. Enjoy immediately.

TROPICAL BLEND

INGREDIENTS
½ cup Orange wedges
½ cup Fresh kiwi, sliced
½ cup Blueberries
2 tbsp Chia seeds
2 tbsp Pine nuts
½ Fresh milk
½ Fresh milk

METHOD

  1. In a blender, blend orange wedges, sliced kiwi, milk and honey. Blend untill smooth.
  2. Then, pour smoothie into a bowl and top with fresh ingredients such as blueberries, chia seeds and pine nuts.
  3. Enjoy immediately.

TIP: If these recipes are not suited for your taste buds, feel free to mix and match with other ingredients. You could include your favourite fruits and vegetables and as a liquid base, feel free to use other fruit juices, yoghurt and even soy or almond milk.
